Gonarezhou - "A place of elephants".

The Park, covers 5,053 square kilometers, or about 1.25 million acres, and stretches from the Save River in the north to the Mwenezi River in the south and is home to some of southern Africa's most breathtaking scenery, including the recognizable Chilojo Cliffs.

Apart from being "the place of elephants," Gonarezhou is also home to a diverse spectrum of animals, including some rare and confined-range species.

Over 450 different bird species, 89 big animal species, 61 small mammal species, over 50 different fish species, 116 different reptile species, and 34 different amphibian species are found in the park.

Of these species, 15 are considered vulnerable, 6 are considered endangered, and 5 are considered severely endangered.
