In addition to the majority of the anticipated plains animals, Chizarira National Park is home to megafauna, including the African elephant, lion, leopard, and Cape buffalo.

There are also numerous smaller wildlife species, such as the klipspringer, which is known for its ability to survive in nearly vertical rocky outcrops.
The name Chizarira comes from the Batonka word Chijalila, which means "a great barrier," a reference to the imposing Zambezi Escarpment, of which Chizarira’s mountains and hills form a portion.
The terrain is rugged, with jagged mountains deeply incised by gorges and ravines.
In between, in the valleys and the odd open plain, you'll find lush vegetation fed by clear natural springs.
The following are some of the things to do or see in the Chizarira National Park.

Reasons why you should pick Mutarazi Falls https://dombotravel.co.zw/news/reasons-why-you-should-pick-mutarazi-falls https://dombotravel.co.zw/news/reasons-why-you-should-pick-mutarazi-falls LOCATION

Mtarazi Falls is just 11.5Kkm from Pungwe Falls, it is situated in the 2,495 hectares Mutarazi National Park adjacent to the southern boundary of the Nyanga National Park.

HISTORY

The Mutarazi Falls are also the first area to be declared a national park as well as a nation, and the park is managed jointly with the National Park of Nyanga. Mutarazi Falls was thought to be the world's fifth-highest waterfall until 2002. The Gocta Cataracts waterfall was discovered in 2002, pushing the Mutarazi Falls to 6th place as the world's highest waterfall. The length of the two levels drops to over 479 m and, while the waterfall may be the second-highest in Africa, it is also one of the narrowest with a width of just 15 m.

ACTIVITIES

Where do I even begin when it comes to activities, there is so much you can do and just a disclaimer: these activities are not for the weak-hearted.

Rope courses: There are rope courses and different packages for family and those adrenaline junkies. One of the packages includes rope bridges, swings, zip lines, nets, and a lot more fun little challenges.

Giant Swing: In Southern Africa, their Giant Swing is the only one of its kind. You will have the unforgettable sensation of free-falling for a few meters, followed by the rush of wind as your pendulum screams until you can no longer scream.

Skywalk: If you ever dreamed of mid-air walking, then this is for you. The Sky Walk consists of two bridges, one of which is 30 m above the lip of the Falls and the other of which is 90 m above the whole of the Falls. The 2 suspension bridges are built to look like vines above the Falls, allowing the Mutarazi Falls and its surroundings to have a complete panoramic view as never before.

Skyline: In the country, the SkyLine is the most beautiful zip line. You can find yourself soaring through clouds or crystal clear skies over the 2nd highest waterfall in Africa, depending on the day and weather. At an average height of 500 m and flying for 400 m at 50-70km / hr. It is uplifting as well as exhilarating.

Water rafting: In the Honde valley, you can enjoy water rafting on the Pungwe River. It is situated in the Eastern Highlands of Zimbabwe. Each travel is very distinct from the next, but both are excellent experiences. They are all participatory requiring guests to self paddle their raft down the river under guidance from a professional river guide. Anything between the Pungwe River has it all, from a fun-filled family day out to an adrenaline-pumping good non-stop action.

Other activities include; river bugging, kayaking, bird watching, orienteering, fly fishing, hiking, mountain biking, and camping.

WHEN TO VISIT

All-day, every day. All year round Monday to Sunday 6 am to 6 pm.

Putting RESPECT on AFRICA https://dombotravel.co.zw/news/putting-respect-on-africa https://dombotravel.co.zw/news/putting-respect-on-africa TANZANIA

Africa’s highest mountain and the highest free-standing mountain in the world is at 19,340 feet in Tanzania. Remember this from back in primary school? I’ve been told the view is beautiful along the trail of this iconic mountain. With lions, elephants, and giraffes roaming the Serengeti, Tanzania's oldest national park, and black rhinos, zebras, and buffalo gathering to drink in the Ngorongoro Crater, Tanzania has many of Africa's famous wildlife species. Serengeti National Park is renowned for its annual migration of wildebeests. The park is one of the world's most beautiful locations.

SAO TOME and PRINCIPE

This is the second smallest country on the continent, consisting of two distinct islands Sao Tome and the island of Principe. Sao Tome and Principe is a tiny island nation with so much to offer, sandy beaches and crystal clear water and countless opportunities for hiking across an astonishing landscape and an odd-looking mountain. They are known for having the best chocolate in the world. I am going there.

ETHIOPIA

Perhaps a visit to one of the hottest and lowest places on earth, the Danakil depression, also known as the gateway to hell, with its surreal and alien-like scenery, would be well worth your time if you're of adventurous kind. If this scares you can visit the holy town of Lalibela, home to 11 truly incredible churches ingeniously carved out of a single rock sometime in the 13th century. If you like a little bit of rarity in nature then keep your eyes open for the rare and beautiful wildlife species such as the Abyssinian wolf and the Walia ibex.

UGANDA

Commonly referred to as the pearl of Africa, Uganda is home to gorillas, the Victoria Lake, and Bwindi National Park. Hike to Sipi Falls, the fourth highest peak in Africa, which used to be three tall waterfalls plunging along Mt Elgon. The Rwenzori Mountains also referred to as the Moon Mountains, are not well known, but may very well be the best secret on the continent. Uganda is also known for offering top of the class raft trips along the White Nile. The exciting part of these trips is you will be going where the rapid takes you. Pretty terrifying, if you ask me but I will do it!

 RWANDA

Those looking to experience culture less actively can visit Rwanda’s beautiful city Kigali where you'll learn the craftsmanship that the women there have with their beautiful beading, leatherwork, and art-making projects. Still to our less athletic friends, you can hike up Mt Kigali from Nyairamambo, it’s not too laborious. If you are looking for wildlife then you can visit the Volcanoes National Park deep within Virunga Mountains.

This is just a glimpse of the many places no one talks about. Visit Africa and change your view about our lovely continent!

KAZUNGULA'S SECRETS https://dombotravel.co.zw/news/kazungulas-secrets https://dombotravel.co.zw/news/kazungulas-secrets There are more than 150 tripoints in the world but only ONE international quadripoint.

A quadripoint is a point that touches the border of four distinct territories

The Kazungula Quadripoint is the world's only point where 4 countries geographically meet.

Kazungula means a small Sausage Tree (a wonderful tree found in the region with big sausage-like fruit.

You can stand in Namibia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Botswana which meet at the eastern end of the Caprivi Strip, commonly known as the 4 corners of Africa.

The Caprivi Strip itself was surrendered by Britain to what was then German South-West Africa (now Nambia) - presumably from Bechuanaland (Botswana) - in order to allow the German colony to have access to the Zambezi river.

The Zambia-Botswana ferry at Kazungula is still the only way to cross the border between those two countries, and the only way to cross from Zimbabwe into Namibia.

Because of the vast area involved in countries, no international quadripoints have ever been claimed.

The other side to the African coin https://dombotravel.co.zw/news/the-other-side-to-the-african-coin https://dombotravel.co.zw/news/the-other-side-to-the-african-coin There is absolutely no other place you can do this. There are more than 150 tripoints in the world but only ONE international quadripoint. There is something to brag about.

In Matabeleland North, Zimbabwe, close to Botswana, Namibia, and Zambia, there is Kazungula a small border post-settlement. Just to the west is the border village of Kazungula in Botswana, from where there is a ferry service for vehicles across the Zambezi River to the town of Kazungula in Zambia.

Kazungula also has meaning. It means a small Sausage Tree (a wonderful tree found in the region with big sausage-like fruit). I wonder if vegans are allowed to also eat from this tree. Many of these trees are not far from here. However, the fact that this boundary connects both Zambia and Zimbabwe's Victoria Falls with the Chobe National Park in Botswana is of most significance.

The Kazungula bridge construction started in October 2014 .This border post has been described as a key link in the infrastructure of Africa's Zambesia region, linking business from the South to that of the North. Indeed, the border is the meeting point of four nations, and four of Zambesia's seven countries share a mutual boundary at Kazungula. Namibia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, and Zambia, respectively. This is an amazing discovery, I mean you can stand in Namibia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Botswana which meet at the eastern end of the Caprivi Strip.

Boarding the Kazungula ferry across the Zambezi River is the only way to encounter this confluence today. For the brave, it's a frontier crossing, taking time, and determination. Fortunately, there is another, far simpler way to reap the benefits of these four remarkable countries' proximity. Cruise your way through watery wonderlands, spend two nights in each nation and visit the only existing international quadripoint. You may reach a "no man's land," where you are either not in a country or four countries at the same time. Imagine that!

Eightfold; for that BOMB SELFIE https://dombotravel.co.zw/news/eightfold-for-that-bomb-selfie https://dombotravel.co.zw/news/eightfold-for-that-bomb-selfie 1.     Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe

To kick off this list I will start with Victoria Falls named by explorer David Livingstone after Queen Victoria. Of course, I will start with my country, that’s my home. Mosi-oa-Tunya, the 'Smoke that Thunders', is a reference to the tremendous spray and rumbling that the Falls produce, but its native African name is far more expressive. The Falls are twice as high as Niagara Falls, with a width of 1,700 meters and a depth of 108 meters. And the savannah, which is full of rhinos, hippos, and lions, surrounds them. You are guaranteed to get a great selfie here so many spots to choose from.

2.     Serengeti, Tanzania

Ah, it's here. Renowned Serengeti. This is where you're going to find your wildebeest and acacia trees. As you'll know from all of your pictures of Africa, this is one of the most distinctive and wonderful places on Earth. Check out the Olduvai Gorge while you're there, both a magnificent place and maybe where humanity was born.

3.      Djenne, African City of Mud

Overlooked by most tourists, Djenne is a tiny island on a map, a refuge for bandits and smugglers (yes, stay woke), and fantasy for photographers. But once you look at its surreal elegance, with its ineffable mosque, you can't know how it catches the soul of a human.

4.      Capetown, South Africa

Cape Town is perhaps Africa's most beautiful city. It's hard to beat the urban beauty of an Instagram spot with the meeting of 2 oceans and Table Mountain springing up in the distance.  Your selection ranges from Sanbi Kirstenbosch Gardens to V&A Waterfront with a whole lot of spots in between.

5.      Pyramid of Giza, Egypt

Also known as the pyramid of Khufu or the pyramid of Cheops, the Great Pyramid of Giza is the oldest and largest pyramid in the Giza complex in Cairo, Egypt. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the work of thousands and thousands of men, the Pyramids and the Sphinx of Giza, was considered to the ancients as a Wonder of the World.  Five thousand-year-old pyramids poking up out of the Sahara, do I need to say more?

6.     Sidi Bou Said, Tunisia

Sidi Bou Said is Tunisia's beautiful Mediterranean coastal village, which has attracted great painters and authors for over a century. Before the French artist, Baron Rodolphe D'Erlanger orchestrated a paint scheme of whitewash and light blue that now encompasses the entire village, it was once a local religious site looking out into the turquoise waters of the ocean. The buildings are also famous, with crescent designs on many, for their great studded doors.

7.     Chefchouen, Morocco

For years, the blue city of Morocco has dazzled tourists and it is easy to see why, with its beautiful streets, creaking doorways, and mountain backdrop. Speak of unique and authentic!

8.     Diani Beach, Kenya

Kenya is stealing the spotlight a bit here, I couldn't go past this country, it has so much beauty to talk about. If you're searching for the fascinating coastline, the accented with the blue Indian Ocean, the fine white sand, and the strange tropical palm tree, Diani is the package for you!

Southern Africa getaway destination: Cape town https://dombotravel.co.zw/news/southern-africa-getaway-destination-cape-town https://dombotravel.co.zw/news/southern-africa-getaway-destination-cape-town In Africa, the metropolis is unlike any other destination. Separated by a range of mountains from the rest of the continent, Cape Town stands as a glittering city adorned with one of the most gorgeous coastal landscapes in the world. But good looks are not the only thing that Cape Town has in store for it. You'll fall in love with the khaki-coloured beaches of this area, the sweeping vineyards, the sizzling food, the thriving art scene, and the spectacular Table Mountain, of course.

A town full of adventure, music, and culinary arts. Start your day with a ride up Table Mountain in the morning; you'll be able to enjoy stunning city views with clearer skies in the early hours. From here, for some water, sand, and surfing, you can head to Boulders or Clifton Beach or explore the rich history of the Mother City. Both Robben Island and The District Six Museum do a fine job of recounting the struggle of the city to conquer apartheid.

All food lovers are well catered for as there is a special diverse cultural history in Cape Town that affects much of its cuisine. There are a few dishes or foods that stand alone as "traditional." Instead, from Cape Dutch to French and Indian, you can find a mixture of types, tastes, and techniques. Some restaurants serve game meat, such as springbok, as carpaccio, calamari, and  beef biltong. Capetown is also home to the finest wines such as Robertson, so be sure to include wine farms such as Groot Constantia, Steenberg among others on your bucket list.

You must be asking, “when is the best time to go?”. Almost any time of the year is great for game viewing, but December through February sees the bulk of the rain and sunshine (so pack your bathing suits) and May through July are the coldest months. That said, The best times to visit Cape Town are from March to May and from September to November. These shoulder seasons boast enviable weather, fewer crowds, and lower prices. Capetown’s summer is the most popular and expensive too. Hotels and attractions are usually overflowing with travelers.

The major cities in Africa, such as Cape Town, are the most cosmopolitan, while the region can be seen as extremely rural. Overall, for so many reasons, the country is a bucket-list destination.

Matusadonha National Park https://dombotravel.co.zw/news/matusadonha-national-park https://dombotravel.co.zw/news/matusadonha-national-park Most of the animals we see today in this park were rescued from the rising waters of the newly formed Lake Kariba (back then) by conservationist Rupert Fothergill and his teams during Operation Noah in 1958 into the Matusadona National Park.

Operation Noah saved the lives of around 5,000 animals, many of which were placed in Matusadona National Park.

The National Park is known for being one of the last wild sanctuaries for the endangered black rhino and is one of the best wildlife spots in Africa.

Matusadona is an Intensive Protection Zone (IPZ) and home to several relocated black rhinoceros. It was also set up to rejuvenate other herds of endangered species. This park is one of the few that has all the members of the Big 5 in Zimbabwe.

Matusadona was proclaimed a non-hunting area on November 7, 1958, before being declared a game reserve in 1963, and then, in 1975, it became a national park under the Parks & Wildlife Act of Rhodesia.

One of Matusadona's most compelling features is its diverse bird life, with over 240 species being recorded in the park. In 2021, 223 Burchell's zebra were relocated to the park to boost game populations. Ten elephants were collared, providing valuable information for better protection.

Some of the activities one can partake in once in Matusadonha are listed below:

Unbridled adventure in the extreme wild.
Hiking and escarpment climbing
Game viewing along the lake shoreline from the safety of houseboats
Fishing in the rivers and inlets
Bird watching in the breathtaking Sanyati Gorge
Game drives
Boating and canoeing safaris

The Matusadona National Park is best accessed from the capital city of Harare on the A1.

A Taste of a True Wilderness Experience In Zimbabwe https://dombotravel.co.zw/news/a-taste-of-a-true-wilderness-experience https://dombotravel.co.zw/news/a-taste-of-a-true-wilderness-experience The park has a 2,612 square mile (6,766 sq km) size and during the wet season, this vast plain produces many lakes.

Wildlife swarms to these natural watering holes as the waters start to drain, making the surviving pools fantastic spots for viewing game.

These lingering ponds are what entice the wildlife and produce this breathtaking environment for game viewing.
In 1984, the Mana Pools, Sapi Safari Area, and Chewore Safari Area were all integrated into one UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Lower Zambezi National Park in Zambia shares a border with the national park's territory. Unfortunately, getting between the two parks is difficult owing to a number of reasons.

The Mana Pools' isolation increases the excitement and adventure of exploring Africa while also allowing visitors to experience a true wilderness experience.

Four pools are acknowledged as permanent in the area, though there may be more than four pools at different times depending on the rainfall. The word "mana" denotes four in the indigenous tongue. The park gets its name from the four permanent watering holes, or pools.

The highest concentration of hippos and crocodiles in Zimbabwe can be found in Zimbabwe's river beds, pools, and surrounding lush vegetation. These are frequently spotted lining the banks of the pools during the dry season, either lounging or grazing.

Elephants, buffalo, zebra, eland, waterbuck, antelope, and other ungulate herds visit the ponds in search of water during the dry season. This makes it a great spot to discover predators like cheetahs, hyenas, leopards, lions, and wild dogs who are ready to pounce on the weak prey.

Poachers have driven the rhino to extinction in the region, despite the fact that it once grazed among the mana pools.
Within the park's confines are the other four members of the "Big 5," including the lion, leopard, elephant, and buffalo.

With over 450 kinds of birds nesting or migrating through the park region, the Mana Pools offer a fantastic opportunity for birdwatchers as well.

To get to mana pools from Harare, use the main tarmac road from Harare/Chirundu to Mana Pools.

When you get to the base of the Zambezi escarpment, exit off the paved road and go toward Nyamepi Camp on a 70 km (43.5 mi) journey.

Blending Zimbabwean Art and Culture https://dombotravel.co.zw/news/blending-zimbabwean-art-and-culture https://dombotravel.co.zw/news/blending-zimbabwean-art-and-culture NATIONAL ART GALLERY

The Zimbabwe National Gallery is a gallery in Harare devoted to the exhibition and restoration of the modern art and visual heritage of Zimbabwe. Frank McEwen, a British citizen credited with bringing Shona Sculpture to the spotlight, designed and directed the original National Gallery of Rhodesia. Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother formally opened the Gallery on 16 July 1957 and the late Queen Elizabeth II attended the sixth Zimbabwe Heritage Exhibition there in October 1991. From a personal point of view, every time I visit the gallery I bump into so many thought-provoking pieces, from poetry, paintings to sculptures. The experience is always worthwhile.

CHAPUNGU SCULPTURE PARK

In Masasa, Harare, Zimbabwe, Chapungu Sculpture Park is a sculpture park showcasing the work of Zimbabwean stone sculptors. It was created by Roy Guthrie in 1970, who played a key role in promoting the work of his sculptors worldwide. One way to do this was to display the sculptures in a traveling show called "Chapungu: Tradition and Legend-A Civilization in Stone" in the Botanical Gardens. Chapungu has one of the largest Zimbabwean Stone Sculpture collection in the world! If you visit, it would be nice to leave with a souvenir from their boutiques there. Again, to my food lovers, the Cocoa Tree provides a welcome stop for coffee, tasty chocolates, and cakes, and The Shop Café uses fresh produce to create a healthy, creative and tasty vegetarian buffet lunch. This a must-visit place.

MATOBO NATIONAL PARK

If you are more into natural sculptures then you better be on your way to Matobo hills. Matopo/Matobo is a corruption of a Venda word, "matombo" which means stones in Tshivenda. The heart of the Matobo or Matopos Hills, a region of granite kopjes and wooded valleys beginning some 35 kilometers south of Bulawayo, southern Zimbabwe, forms the Matobo National Park. Over 2 billion years ago, the hills were formed with granite forced to the surface, which eroded to produce smooth "whaleback dwalas" and broken kopjes, strewn with boulders and interspersed with thickets of vegetation. Geography students would enjoy this tour. The grave of Cecil Rhodes, founder of former British colony Rhodesia, is carved into the summit of Malindidzimu. Now there is both art and culture in one place.

  • Kenya
  • In the northern parts of Kenya around the Lamu Archipelago, Kenya 's best beaches and islands are a beautiful and remote part of the Indian Ocean; where empty pristine beaches stretch for miles, you can really enjoy the laid-back bare foot comfort that makes Lamu such an enticing destination for the beach. It is the ideal complement to an East African safari, aside from its charming cultural draw, and not to mention fantastic value for money accommodation choices.

    1. Seychelles

Ever wonder why Seychelles is a famous romantic destination? We’ll take a minute to just imagine yourself relaxing for a second at a mesmerizing white sand beach surrounded on a sunny day by crystal clear waters, lush green hills, and beautiful glacis boulders. It may sound too good to be true, but for those travelling to the Seychelles, this is the daily truth.

    1. Mauritius

A sleepy-eyed wake-up call is worth the sunrise from the quiet beach of Belle Mare, on Mauritius's east coast. Although it is known for its fine white sand, along this barely developed stretch of beach you are likely to find a secluded place to take it all in. The water is cool and shallow; exactly what you want for lazy days to luxuriate away.

Houseboats in Kariba https://dombotravel.co.zw/news/houseboats-in-kariba https://dombotravel.co.zw/news/houseboats-in-kariba Visitors can experience staying on a lake while viewing wildlife on and around the lake aboard houseboats.

Depending on the size of the boat, a houseboat can sleep up to 30 people per night in families. While on the boat, tourists can travel from one island to another and select whatever island they want to spend the night on.

The following activities are provided to visitors free of charge throughout their stay on the boat:

    1. Fishing

    2. Boat cruising

    3. Exploring various islands

    4. A perspective of nature

    5. Game viewing

    6. Sunset viewing

As a result, renting a houseboat as a family is less expensive than staying in Kariba because the activities mentioned above will cost money per person if the family chooses to participate in them. Driving to and from the lodge costs fuel, whereas parking your car on the harbor and boarding a houseboat for a vacation does not. The boat has three staff members who are not paid by the tourists: a cook, a deckhand, and the captain.

Due to their ability to be creative, tourists who travel by houseboat often stop at semi-beaches close to the lake's shoreline to sunbathe, braai, have beach meals, picnic, and engage in other activities.

Parasailing in Kariba https://dombotravel.co.zw/news/parasailing-in-kariba https://dombotravel.co.zw/news/parasailing-in-kariba Parasailing is also known as parascending, paraskiing or parakiting.
At present, parasailing is being offered by a local company called Sunsports. The activity has drawn attention from both local and foreign tourists, and it is not ideal for a tourist to visit Kariba and miss the activity.

Parasailing is also a bonding activity one can do with friends, family, and even his or her own fiance.

The activity allows the participants to fly like birds over the lake Kariba, and it also provides at least 30 minutes of enjoyment in a speedboat or tender-boat.

Children below the age of 12 can either do a tandem with their siblings or with one of their parents or guardians as long as their combined weights do not exceed 100 kg.

Normally the activity is booked for most of a month before and for the booking they require information like: full name, number of people (which they refer to as pax), weights of each person ,phone number, date and preferred time (they have slots for the activity for-morning, noon, and sundowner).

Crocodiles farming in Kariba https://dombotravel.co.zw/news/crocodiles-farming-in-kariba https://dombotravel.co.zw/news/crocodiles-farming-in-kariba The Padenga Holdings' personnel feed, clean and take care these crocodiles at the farms.

Besides the learning and educating sessions one can have about the crocodiles in Kariba, the crocodile meat, which is reported to be delicious but pricey, is a delicacy among Kariba locals and is also offered by nearby hotels.
The company exports crocodile meat, parts, and skin to western nations for use in making of belts, shoes, and a variety of other items that are readily apparent.
In Kariba, the tour guides typically travel to fields where guests can glimpse crocodiles via a fence at one of the farms during the game viewing.
Children who are visiting Kariba for the first time may find crocodile viewing particularly interesting because it allows them to learn about how the reptiles live and how they contribute to Zimbabwe's economy.

Although there is no concrete proof to back up the argument, climatologists have noticed that they contribute to global warming; as a result, no new farms are permitted to be created in Zimbabwe.

Visit Kariba and learn more about unique species you can only find in few places in Zimbabwe.

Game touring in Kariba https://dombotravel.co.zw/news/game-touring-in-kariba https://dombotravel.co.zw/news/game-touring-in-kariba One cannot spend the whole day without seeing at least two species on the road while in Kariba.

Several companies do offer game viewing in Kariba, and they drive with tourists to areas where large numbers of animals are found at specific times, and the tour guide will be informing the tourists how to behave near certain types of animals, for example, if you see an elephant, you have to wait for it to cross from a distance, or when you see a zebra, you can walk towards it because it is less harmful.

Animals in Kariba are not tamed; they are natural; therefore, the tour guide will be the leader during the activity.

Kariba has high temperatures; therefore, when taking this activity, one should consider taking a sun hat, sunscreen lotion, shades, and water for the trip. Otherwise, it’s an enjoyable activity that informs a lot of people on how animals behave and how to coexist with animals in harmony.

Intresting facts about Kariba https://dombotravel.co.zw/news/intresting-facts-about-kariba https://dombotravel.co.zw/news/intresting-facts-about-kariba Kariba is a destination that holds a myriad of fascinations ranging from the history and myths, Nyaminyami, wildlife, surrounding national parks and mountains, dam wall, lake Kariba, and the Tonga culture.

The exceptional district comprises 12 rural wards and 9 urban wards. The constituency has two separate municipalities rural and urban namely Nyaminyami Rural District Council (NRDC) and Municipality of Kariba (MOK).

The resort area was named by Europeans from the Shona name "Kariva" which means a little trap. It is believed that the Italians old not pronounce the word ‘Kariva" correctly hence replaced the letter "v" with ‘bʼ , resulting in a new name Kariba by then.

The trap may be best explained by an incident that took place during the first dam flooding in the early 60s, 11 Italian men were trapped in the concrete wall and could not be removed because it was expensive to do so, making their bodies part of Kariba Dam wall.

The dam wall was constructed in the 1950s and it took about ten years too complete and it was built by an Italian company called Impresit. The dam-wall was designed by French engineer Andre Coyne, a specialist in arch dams by then.

Kariba resort is situated at the site of the hydroelectric dam across the Zambezi River. The hydroelectric power plant is the 6th largest in Africa. It is 128m tall and 579m long and is the largest man-made dam in the world.

The construction of Kariba lake and the dam wall gave birth to significant achievements in the country. Economically, the electricity and tourism sectors do depend on the above-mentioned achievements.

The event provides excellent opportunities for brand exposition to both exhibiting, partnering and sponsoring companies.

Speaking on the partnering the Expo, Airports Company chief executive Mr Tawanda Gusha said: "The Airports Company of Zimbabwe (Private) Limited will be partnering with the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority at this year's edition of Sanganai/Hlanganani World Tourism Expo.

"Aviation and tourism are intertwined and interdependent; the growth in national tourism translates directly to the growth of passenger and aircraft movements across the airports making this a win-win partnership.

Airports Company operates a network of eight airports which are strategically located around the country, providing direct and fastest access to the country's tourist resorts and trade areas.

The three major international airports are: Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport in Harare and now being upgraded, Victoria Falls International Airport and Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport in Bulawayo.

Another five smaller airports are mainly served by charter operators except for Kariba which now has a scheduled service.

These five are: Kariba International Airport, Charles Prince International Airport, Hwange National Park Airport, Masvingo International Airport, and Buffalo Range International Airport.

Air Zimbabwe has put additional capacity for local and foreign inbound visitors.

The partnership includes, among other things, domestic flights for winners of a familiarisation trip to Zimbabwe at the Dubai 2020 Expo held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, from October 2021 to March 2022.

The partnership will also include co-branding on advertising and other activities in-flight and prizes on the public day.

In welcoming the partnerships, ZTA Chief Executive Ms Winnie Muchanyuka said, "I would like to commend Airports Company of Zimbabwe and Air Zimbabwe for coming on board with their various sponsorship packages for Sanganai/Hlanganani World Tourism Expo.

"It gives us the much-needed boost and confidence as we resume the expo in its physical form following a protracted break due to the ruthless COVID-19 pandemic. I would like to sincerely thank them for considering Sanganai/Hlanganani worthy partnering and sponsoring especially in this environment where there is a fierce competition for resources. Let me at this juncture call upon corporates and individuals to follow suit."
