Big Cave Camp, " the safari lodge on the rocks"

Big Cave Camp Lodge is one of the wonderful places in Matobo to stay while exploring Matobo National Park. It is perched atop a huge granite whaleback and offers breathtaking views of the well-known Matobo National Park. Massive rocks are incorporated into the elegantly furnished thatched lodge's sophisticated African design, which is set amidst prehistoric Khoisan rock art.

Once booked at this wonderful place, you get to experience a natural rock pool and sundeck. The Leopard's Lair lounge and bar, a cave-style boma for pre-dinner beverages, or the well-liked lodge library, are all great places to unwind at the end of the day. The eight thatched A-frame cottages, each with a private terrace and en-suite toilet, exude an inventive African spirit.

One of tourist wrote " A superbly beautiful site in the Matopos. Friendly efficient staff who cater to your every request. Fabulous sunset on Lightening Rock and bush breakfast are never to be forgotten. A pristine collection of rock paintings that are easily accessed on a morning guided walk. Splash in the rock pool to cool off at the end of a warm day. End off a relaxing day around a boma fire into the night. What a great experience!" .

The place is worthy staying and they offer all activities one can ever need while located near a wildlife park and Matobo Hills has one of the highest concentrations of leopards in Africa.

Leonarora and Annette had this to say after visiting Zimbabwe and having stayed  at the place

A memorable place to stay:

We, a female couple, traveled around Zimbabwe for three weeks in November 2017, and our stay at Big Cave Camp was a definite highlight. We stayed here for two and a half days, and an extra day or two would have been lovely. The place is quite small, and breakfast, as well as a set menu for lunch and dinner, are taken family-style with the other guests, the delightful manager, Lin, and the on-site guide, Shepherd. The food was amazing here, which is a big plus since the place is secluded and there’s nowhere else to go.

Both the common areas and the rooms are very tastefully laid out. It was wonderful simply to hang out and just enjoy the extraordinary surroundings. The place is situated in a huge, private park bordering the national park with lots of birds and animals like zebras, wildebeest, hyraxes, lizards, monkeys, and leopards. The Internet was very expensive and very slow, so we decided to go offline and take in the splendid view from our balcony and our various tours with Shepherd instead. He is extremely knowledgable, particularly when it comes to birds, and we can definitely recommend his guided walks and sunset tour. He knows the area so well.

The area itself is stunning, with impressive rock formations, and it’s a delight to be able to walk around the area and take in the scenery without fear of wild animals. We wholeheartedly recommend this place to nature lovers and bird lovers alike.

If you considering visiting Matobo Hills, consider this place and live the dream many tourists have fulfilled.
