Granted UNESCO World Heritage Site status in 1986 ,the Khami ruins are located about 22km away from the City of Bulawayo and is located on aa hilltop that is downstream from a dam built during 1928-1929.
Khami ruins are the capital of the Torwa seeking dynasty which rose as a result of the demise of the Great Zimbabwe Kingdom .It is composed of dry-stone walled structures which historians regard as an epitome of evolving stone age culture. It is the second largest stone build monument in Zimbabwe – after the Great Zimbabwe of course .
The ruins are managed by National Museums and Monuments which serves as the responsible agency for the maintenance of this property .Government of Zimbabwe partly funds into conservation work through its Public Sector Investment Programme.(PSIP) . Curious ? Pay a visit!
